. The aim of this paper is to present some epidemiological, clinical and psychosocial problems connected with lung cancer from a pulmonological point of view. Although the results of treatment of lung cancer are so far very poor and it is the most important cause of death among all malignant neoplasms, know-ledge about this disease is poor among the general public. Information on lung cancer is rarely found in newspapers, television, radio and other media. Probably the reason for this situation is the fact that lung cancer makes a ”depressing story”. Prophylactic actions (such as against smoking addiction) and broad education are very important for patients with lung cancer and can help to improve the results of treatment and quality of life, and to change the general public view of these problems.
