Peritonsillar abscess is a complication of acute tonsillitis and a common reason for patients’ admission to the otolaryngology emergency department. In rare cases clinical manifestation of an abscess may obscure a tumor of malignant origin. We present a case of a 49-year-old female patient, whose clinical issue initially diagnosed as peritonsillar abscess turned out to be advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the palatine tonsil.
